DUOS Orthoptics

What to Expect

The examination is calm, painless and adapted to the patient’s age. It includes orthoptic assessments and screening tests focused on eye coordination in both children and adults.

How orthoptic therapy works:

  1. Examination by an ophthalmologist and recommendation for therapy.
  2. Orthoptic assessment (orthoptic status) at our centre.
  3. Planning and carrying out individual orthoptic exercises.

Exercises Orthoptic-pleoptic exercises

Orthoptic-pleoptic exercises are specialised therapeutic eye exercises designed to improve visual function, eye coordination and visual comfort.

They are suitable for both children and adults with amblyopia, squint, binocular vision disorders, eye strain, focusing problems or difficulties during near work.

Pleoptic exercises

Pleoptics focuses mainly on the treatment of amblyopia and strengthening the weaker eye. During exercises, the better-seeing eye may be covered with an occluder to stimulate the eye with reduced visual acuity.

Therapy may include visual tasks, hand-eye coordination, work with fine detail and specialised devices under professional supervision.

Orthoptic exercises

Orthoptics focuses on improving cooperation between both eyes. It helps with squint, eye coordination disorders, convergence problems and focusing difficulties.

These exercises support proper binocular vision and are always adapted to the patient’s age, diagnosis and current condition.

Assessment Orthoptic status

Orthoptic status is an assessment focused on eye coordination and the quality of binocular vision. It is non-invasive and carried out using specialised tests and instruments.

The assessment evaluates eye position, motility, ability to work together, depth perception and any deviations such as squint or eye coordination disorders.

The assessment is performed in both children and adults, especially before starting orthoptic-pleoptic exercises or as a review during therapy.

Screening PlusOptix screening examination

PlusOptix is a non-contact screening device designed for an initial vision check in children. It helps assess basic visual parameters quickly from around 6 months of age.

The screening is simple, quick and does not require active cooperation from the child. The child follows a coloured light stimulus from a distance of about one metre and the measurement takes only a few seconds.

The device can provide an initial assessment of:

refractive error
difference between the eyes
eye alignment
possible risk of squint
pupil size and reaction
risk of binocular vision disorders

The result serves as a screening outcome. If the device detects a deviation, we recommend a more detailed eye examination by an ophthalmologist. You can also find an overview of services in the Prices section.
